Job description
Sports Medicine is a horizontally positioned medical discipline, uniquely able to build bridges between medical specialties, resulting in high-quality collaborative multidisciplinary care, teaching and research. The chair will be responsible to develop, extend and supervise research in the field of Sports Medicine at UMC Utrecht. The Sports Medicine clinical care and research program within UMC Utrecht focuses on intervention studies on sports injuries (diagnostics, therapies and prevention aimed at the lower extremity) and the effectiveness of exercise programmes (part of the program ‘Exercise is medicine’). This field of research extends to patients with different disabilities such as those in the context of cardiovascular diseases, mental disorders, internal diseases and oncological disorders, as well as transplant patients. The program ‘Exercise is Medicine’ is also the focus of Physical Therapy Science and Rehabilitation Medicine. The department of Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy Science & Sport is crucially dependent on a chair to further advance clinical care, teaching and research in the area of Sports Medicine. The chair will lead the Sports Medicine programme, provide excellent clinical care and does research to further the field of Clinical Sports Medicine. The Chair works in close relationship with the chairs ‘Rehabilitation Medicine’ and ‘Physical Therapy Science’. The three chairs complement and reinforce each other. The Chair will actively liaise with and coordinate the cooperation with other departments within UMC Utrecht. The chair will be an active member of the management team of the department of Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy Science & Sport, contributing to department policy and activity planning. The chair entails an alliance between UMC Utrecht and KNVB (the Netherlands Royal Football Association). The KNVB is the largest sports federation of the Netherlands. The chair will strengthen the unique collaboration between UMC Utrecht and KNVB by furthering research and education on Clinical Sports Medicine. Depending on the field of expertise of the candidate, the chair will be embedded within one of the six strategic research programs of UMC Utrecht: Brain, Cancer, Child Health, Circulatory Health, Infection & Immunity, or Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells.
Requirements
Registered and doctorate as a sports medical specialist Has a national and international network in the area of Sports Medicine Has experience in the implementation of Sports Medicine in clinical care Has experience in teaching Sports Medicine Demonstrates interest, experience, and excellence in ‘Exercise is Medicine’ Demonstrates clinical leadership skills Demonstrates excellent communication skills
Conditions of employment
The position is for a part-time employment of 0,8 FTE (36 hours a week). The position is embedded within the department of Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy Science & Sport, which is part of the division Brain of UMC Utrecht.
